An interactive online course for massage therapists interested in safely and supportively working with people experiencing Long COVID (Post-Acute Sequelae of COVID-19). This course has the interactive features to be considered ‘supervised’ under OAR 334-010-0050 (3)(a)(B) for Oregon LMTs.

Long COVID will be one of the defining health crises of the 21st century, and our health care and social support systems are not prepared to deal with the magnitude of the coming wave of post-acute infection illness, which has historically been deprioritized for research. Long COVID is not one condition. It represents many potentially overlapping entities, likely with different biological causes and different sets of risk factors and outcomes. It is critical that physical activity interventions, including massage therapy, are applied with caution and careful clinical decision making based on symptoms during and in the days following exertion due to:

  • potential for vascular, nerve, and skeletal muscle tissue changes, clotting abnormalities, and elevated stroke and cardiac event risk in people who have had COVID-19

  • risk of worsening symptoms with overexertion in some phenotypes of Long COVID

Prerequisite: LMT or other licensed health care professional
